Choose Your Words Carefully

Words matter when it comes to talking to your mate about money. It’s not just what you say, it’s how you say it. Instead of saying, “You’re spending us into a hole,” try “I’m concerned about having enough money saved to buy the home we’ve talked about.” Put the problem in the context of your concerns or fears instead of battering your buddy into submission. Instead of, “It’s time for you to grow up,” try “I’m really concerned about what’ll happen if an emergency comes up and we have nothing saved.” I’m willing to bet you’ll be more successful in convincing your pal to cooperate.
