Everybody Has a Story

Hi, my name is Lisa. I’m a thirty something married mom of 2 small kids, living in a small town in central Ontario. After college I spent 6 years working for a small business with a very low ceiling. 3 years ago, I was fortunate enough to land a job with one of the city’s largest employers. I love my job and it challenges me every day and as an added bonus, it does more than just cover daycare costs. Other things to know about me: I love football (NFL), cycling and have even dabbled in triathlons.
Hubs and I met in college 12 years ago and have been happily married for 8 years. You could consider us experts in the field of debt. Over the years we have found ourselves to be in varying states of financial wellness. We have gone from a combined debt load of 40K after college to where we sit today; having checked all the boxes on a solid, intermediate financial plan. At some point about 6 years ago (see addition of baby #1) we decided we needed to get serious about getting that debt paid off. It’s been tough at times – Hubs and I have different styles when it comes to managing money but we’ve worked hard and are working together towards our common financial goals. We’ve made great strides and are almost completely debt free – excluding our mortgage
The funny thing about personal finance is this: when you get to where you think you’re going, you begin to realize that place is actually just a stop along the way. Financial wellness is not a static state, circumstances and expenses are always shifting and effectively managing money can be like trying to hit a moving target. I can’t tell you how many steps backwards we have taken. I don’t even like to think about it actually. What draws me to this site every day is knowing that I’m going to read about relatable experiences from relatable people. I appreciate the honesty and perspective the ‘other voices’ bloggers bring. For the next 6 months, I’ll be blogging on Fridays and I’ll be writing about my mistakes, successes and goals. I haven’t been able to decide if it’s my intent to inspire, be an example or simply, just to share my story.
I’m up for this challenge and excited to see where it leads.
